Looming Fiction:: la fantascienza con la data di scadenza

Abstract

In the past twenty years, western audiovisual science fiction – originally focused on ex-
ploratory and adventurous futures – has transformed into looming fiction, dominated sole-
ly by dystopian and catastrophic scenarios. This shift also reflects contemporary narratives

that depict societies in environmental and governmental crises, corrupted by dystopian and

dictatorial technological innovations. The challenge today is to rediscover and reinvent sci-
ence fiction, offering stories that inspire positive change and balanced, stimulating visions

of the future.
