Abstract

This paper is bases upon the idea that mass culture reflects the basic cultural assumptions of a society. Namely, science fiction contains the general ideas of contemporary societies about the change and innovation: being set ether in the near or remote future, science fiction unveils what social actors expect about the future. Within this framework, we analyzed the most successful science-fiction movies in the last years and assessed what idea of the future they represent. The result is that nowadays we have low expectations about the future, that is full with technological innovation - no matter if realistic on unrealistic- but does not create world where just and equality are realized: on the contrary, they become tool for greed and cruelty to ravage the universe.
