Abstract

Abstract
The article examines the issue of violence in Venezuela, considering the factors
that contribute to this problem and the impact of European Union sanctions against
Caracas. The violence in Venezuela is widespread, generalized, and closely linked with
the humanitarian, political, and economic crisis in the country, resulting in ongoing

human rights violations. The EU has imposed different categories of sanctions on Ven-
ezuela, including an arms trade embargo. The article aims to analyze the effects of

the EU’s approach, as the Venezuelan regime seeks international partnerships beyond
Western democracies. The article critically evaluates the impact of EU sanctions on
the situation in Venezuela, including the effectiveness of the arms trade embargo in
addressing violence. Through a nuanced analysis, the article contributes to the existing
literature and highlights the need to address the complexities of violence in Venezuela
and the role of EU sanctions in shaping the country’s dynamics.
