Towards the privatisation of public space? Considerations on the Metaverse

Abstract

The potential impact of the Metaverse sees at the forefront the issue of who is legitimised to decide on the technological architecture and the rules that will govern this space. If the path of ‘privatisation’ of the Metaverse is pursued, the risk is that socially de-empowered entrepreneurs will be legitimised to define the evolutionary parameters of the virtual community, attributing hierarchies to values according to a process not oriented to the common good, but to profit.
