Abstract

This paper wants to reflect on the processes of cinematographic production and distribution and, more specifically, of digital audiovisuals in light of some changes linked to a) widespread diffusion of SVOD services and the war of platforms (Scolari 2022); b) affirmation of processes of platformization (Helmond 2015) of cultural and media production and more generally of the cultural industry, within a new social configuration that falls under the name of platform society (van Dijck et al. 2019); c) affirmation of a new spectator status and more fragmented modes of consumption. To do this, we will proceed with exemplifying a case study (Yin 2014), that of Disney, with particular attention to the analysis of the video streaming platform Disney+.
