Abstract

The Netflix series Dark – The secrets of Winden debuted in 2017. Nothing is linear in
this series, starting from the “circular” conception of time, that is, as a series of time cycles.
There is, therefore, a relationship between space and time, even very distant from each
other, and which the film manages to bring together thanks to forms of alternating editing,
or the use of techniques such as flashback or flashforward. Just like in the case of the Dark

series or in Christopher Nolan’s films. The dimensions of space and time inevitably inter-
sect, the dimension of time gives importance to that of space.

Nolan likes to turn meanings upside down with elements of style. Kip Stephen Thorne,
theoretical physicist, has theorized a theory on wormholes, shortcuts in space-time, which
would not only exist but would be used as portals to travel between the past, present and

future. If we think of cinema during its evolution over time, directors have been “delud-
ing” their spectators for over a century. However, Nolan like Georges Méliès, have brought

indelible innovations to the world of cinema, while remaining faithful to the basic premises
of classic cinema.
