Abstract
The essay addresses the re-mediation of myth ‘in cinema’, examining a recent transposition of Sophocles’ tragedy Oedipus Rex through three levels of critical comment. The essay outlines the questioning of some ideological and value-based aspects of the contemporary era, secondly outlines how the film allows us to question the humankind, the love relationship, sexual procreation and the primary bond of kinship that culturally and socially allows reproduction. Third, the essay identifies the deepest speculation on human destiny, about the thinkable ‘fault’ that separates and unites cause and chance.
